Graham Creek Nature Preserve is Foley’s answer to a proper nature escape, more than 500 acres of pine flatwoods, wetlands, and creek frontage laced with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails just inland from the beach. It’s a favorite recommendation for guests who want to swap a beach afternoon for something quieter and shadier, especially midsummer when the tree cover makes a real difference.
The preserve has a network of trails ranging from short, flat interpretive walks near the entrance to longer multi-use loops that mountain bikers use regularly, so it suits a wide range of fitness levels and interests in one visit. Wildlife viewing is a big draw here too, with gopher tortoises, wading birds, and a healthy population of songbirds in the wetter, marshier sections closer to the creek. Mornings and late afternoons are the most comfortable times to go, particularly in summer when the flatwoods can get warm by midday.
Entry is free, there’s a gravel and paved parking area near the interpretive center, and restrooms are on site during staffed hours, though the trails themselves are open daily from dawn to dusk. It’s about a 20 to 25 minute drive from most of our Gulf Shores and Orange Beach properties, making it an easy half-day trip for guests looking to add some inland scenery and a bit of exercise to a beach-focused stay.
