The Pink Pony Pub has been a fixture right on the Gulf Shores public beach since 1956, and it’s the low-key, salty-air answer to a lot of the flashier spots along the coast. It’s a beachfront seafood restaurant and bar first, with a laid-back late-night crowd second, the kind of place where you can walk straight off the sand in a swimsuit and order a basket of fried shrimp and a cold beer without anyone blinking.
There’s live music on the deck several nights a week during the season, and the upstairs bar area has a good view of the water if you time it for sunset. It’s an easy pick for a first or last night of the trip, close enough to walk to from the sand, and it’s been a Gulf Shores tradition for longer than almost anywhere else on this stretch of coast.
